Traffic Generation Through LinkedIn – LinkedIn Groups?

Linkedin Groups

LinkedIn is a professional social media site that lacks the “social” part of other social media sites. It is a great site, but the options are limited (Especially when it comes to promoting your posts and engaging with others). The best method to LinkedIn is to work with groups – LinkedIn groups (I think that is the only big method through which you can actually gain some traffic).

Complete Your Profile

First thing you need to do with LinkedIn is to complete your profile – include your skills, your specialties, your past and present job positions (include your blog in jobs) and everything others need to know – If used effectively, LinkedIn can be a very helpful site for generating leads/clients for your small business (I asked a few people about LinkedIn traffic generation and some told me that they got clients just because they completed their profiles).

Connect with Others

Another thing to remember is connections. Connect with a lot of people, you know. The more relationships you have, the better (but, that doesn’t mean you should randomly send connection requests to everyone – send requests to people you actually know, through your blog or social media).

Remember: You can also generate traffic through collaboration. If you know a lot of people in LinkedIn who would like to get traffic from it, then you could work together. Form a group in which you can exchange comments, talk about prominent issues in the blogosphere and help each other get more leads/customers.

LinkedIn Groups – Bloggers Helping Bloggers

LinkedIn groups are a great feature. The only problem is that there are too many of them – you need to search and find the appropriate ones. When I go through the search, I look for groups in which there is participation (And I don’t mean posting links – I mean actual discussions). I could only find a few with actual discussions. And Bloggers helping Bloggers group is one among them. In Bloggers Helping Bloggers, we discuss about issues concerning bloggers, we also have a 2 week promotion post in which we exchange comments (so, in this group, you can get both community participation and marketing). Click here to visit Bloggers Helping Bloggers LinkedIn Group.

Tip: When searching for Groups, look for ones in which you have many connections (generally, many suggested groups are groups in which your connections are members so). Look through the group before joining it, look at the participation (is it all links? Then, I would recommend you not join the group).

LinkedIn Group: Extra Tips.

  • Ask Questions, Answer questions.
  • Participate in discussions – explain yourself.
  • Help others.
  • Participate in Comment, Sharing Exchanges.

Wrap

As far as traffic generation goes, LinkedIn is not a great source. But, we can still use it to collaborate and get some traffic (if you don’t mind spending some time for it). I don’t get much traffic from LinkedIn, but I still use it, because it has given me some great connections to work with (and the discussions in LinkedIn groups are pretty informative).

As far as the LinkedIn experiment goes, well, it didn’t turn out to be a huge success (And I expected that, because it is LinkedIn). But, I did learn a few things here and there.

Anyways, thank you guys!

  1. Hi Jeevan
Another useful, practical and… short article. LOL

“Would you like to generate traffic through LinkedIn?” – YES.
    Always ingerested in generating traffic.

I use twitter and facebook and recently joined Triberr.
Would you recommend that I join LinkedIn?

    • Hey Keith,

I am glad you found it useful.

Yes, I would, Keith. LinkedIn is a great business network (easy to find like minded folks to work with).

LinkedIn groups are the best way to go – with traffic generation (I really don’t see any other viable methods without spending money).

Thank you for stopping by, Keith!

  2. Hey Jeevan,

I joined some groups previously and they were all junk so a few months ago I went in search of some that had to do with blogging. Guess what! I joined this group along with three more but here’s the problem.

This group is a subgroup of The Blog Zone and the owner of that group is MIA. Yep, I signed up over two months ago and another owner of a group tried to hunt him down but he’s nowhere to be found.

Wish you guys could remove your group from being a subgroup because I hate to tell you but whoever wants to join will be waiting a very long time. Dang it! :-(

    • Hey Adrienne,

Lot of them are just plain useless (many of them which used to be useful also became junk when sharing links began to get wild).

I think it’s all fixed now (I joined 1 month back, approved in less than 30 minutes). Maybe you should try joining again. Yeah, it would not be cool to be waiting around for something. Sorry for your bad experience, Adrienne.

      Thank you for stopping by!

  3. I have to agree with Adrienne. There are way to many groups that are garbage and way to many that the group admin has disappeared.

It’s becoming filled with spam posts as well, with little or no real discussions. Just people promoting themselves or their business.

But it is really great at getting a new post indexed quickly if you add it to your status updates.

    • Hey Brian,

Yeah, I agree. It is hard to find useful groups, but there are some out there (I could only find one which wasn’t just about link sharing, but more about having discussions).

Thank you for stopping by, Brian! Appreciate your comment.
